We were founded in 1979 by renowned club designer Roger Cleveland in California. Originally called Cleveland Classics, we began by creating high-quality replicas of classic golf clubs from the 1940s and 1950s. Our innovative spirit soon led us to develop our own original designs, with the 588 wedge line released in the late 1980s becoming one of the best-selling wedges of all time.
In 1990, ski equipment manufacturer Rossignol acquired us and changed our name to Cleveland Golf. During this era, we grew significantly with the VAS line of woods and irons, notably used by Corey Pavin when he won the 1995 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills. Vijay Singh also became a key ambassador, helping establish us as a major player in the golf equipment industry.
Today, we are owned by SRI Sports Limited, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, which acquired us in 2007. We operate alongside sister brands Srixon and XXIO under the Dunlop Sports umbrella. Our headquarters remain in Huntington Beach, California, and we continue to be recognized as an undisputed trailblazer in wedge design innovation while also producing a full line of woods, irons, and putters.
